Starting August Out Right!

August 1st snuck up on us this year and all of a sudden we were mourning the fact that summer was coming to an end.  June and July have been packed and I was determined to make sure that we could squeeze every last bit of fun out of August and the end of our summer.  We started off by going to a night market at a greenhouse and home shop near our house.  They had a bounce house and slides for the kids, boutique shopping for me, tacos for Tim and some really great live music.  It was a perfect summer night and we just enjoyed being together.  The kids made all sorts of new friends at the bounce house and it took multiple warnings, reminders, and minor threats to get them to put on their shoes and leave.  To be honest, we didn't try very hard.  The night was just too nice and we were in no hurry to have it end.

Friday morning I got my longish run in, then the kids and I packed up and headed to Springville Reservoir to meet up with Kristin and her kids.  We have been trying to get together all summer and were both so happy that we were finally able to make it happen.  Longtime friends really are the best - I love that we can just pick up our friendship and conversation wherever it left off last.  We hung out at the res last summer, but this year was better because all of the kids are older.  Luke and Ruby spent most of their time collecting, then getting rid of seaweed, and I was the unofficial tour guide on the paddle board.  I took all of the kids for rides and had a great time narrating everything we saw.

After spending the day in the water, we were all tired, but I still had some errands to run so we split up and had a girls and boy's night with each of the kids.  Ruby and I went and had our nails done and once again, she was the favorite at the salon.  Everyone loves how cute she is and they get a kick out of the fact that she has a favorite and requests a certain girl to do her nails.  While we were off doing our nails, Tim and Luke went bowling.  Luke was a little disappointed that he didn't get over 100 points like Tim, but they still had a great time on their "mystery date".

Saturday morning was Orchard Days and the parade in Santaquin.  Tim picked up Brycen early Saturday morning from EFY and Erika showed up late Friday night to sleep over so we were able to all head to the parade together.  For Luke and Ruby the only thing better than a parade, is a parade with the big kids.  The fact that they throw candy at this parade made the morning practically perfect.  And they threw so much candy!  All of the kids ended up with a big bag of candy as well as other small prizes like tooth brushes, a football and a beach ball.

After the parade we headed back to Provo in search of an adventure.  We all went out to lunch, the headed up the canyon to explore for awhile.  Mostly all of the kids ran around, played hide and seek, made up games, and generally had a great time together.

As we came out of the canyon we decided to stop at the Chalk the Block Festival at the Riverwoods and see all of the chalk art.  I was the only one who had been before and everyone was amazed at what had been created.  Unfortunately, it was super hot so we didn't stay for too long.

After a chaotic shopping trip to our new Trader Joes (woo hoo), we ended the night with a BBQ and backyard games.  The kids laughed and teased and tried to limbo and I loved watching it all.  Ruby especially had so much fun and keeps talking about how much fun she had with her big sister.

On Sunday we celebrated Ada's birthday early so that we could have the party when Jesse was able to be there.  Because she and Tim share a birthday we usually celebrate together.  It was kind of nice to do it this way and let Ada have her own moment to shine....and enjoy her mazola cake.  Of course the little girls were more than happy to help with the candles.  Bun Sunday night we were all exhausted, but start to finish, this weekend ranks right up there as one of the best!
