Disneyland...the happiest place on earth ...currently feels about a million miles away. In the last six weeks our world has changed dramatically and I've had a hard time getting myself back into the right head space to write about our vacation. But honestly when I step back and think about it, I feel so lucky that we were able to have such an amazing vacation right before traveling became impossible. The kids are already begging to know when we can go back to California and right now it seems like it may be a very long time before we are able to go on a trip again. So for now, we will just enjoy the memories of a trip that was practically perfect in every way.
We checked the kids out of school early on Tuesday afternoon and headed to the airport. Everything went so smoothly and we arrived at the airport even earlier than we had planned. It was nice to not feel rushed and the kids loved watching all of the airport activity. And yes...we still take our stroller, it makes everything so much easier.
One of the best parts about this trip was having my parents join us for the fun. We arrived at Disneyland bright and early the first day, had time for pictures, and then headed out to enjoy the park.
The boys looked fantastic in their matching shirts.
Luke and Ruby love to play in Tarzan's treehouse
And we all love the silliness of the jungle cruise, especially grandpa.
Luke was so excited when he found a necklace he loved in a little shop near the Jungle Cruise. As we walked along the path, he held my hand and was so happy and it was just the most perfect moment. I told him I wanted to stop and take a picture together just so we could always remember the magic of it all. Seeing this picture brings back the memories and makes me so happy.
Grandpa and Grandma found beignets.
A first for all of us, we rode the rive boat and loved it!
Esmerelda was on the boat and Ruby had plenty of time to chat and take pictures.
The whole gang was out at Pooh Corner
Never have I ever been so soaked, or laughed so hard, when riding Splash Mountain.
And Ruby's face.....
By mid-afternoon, we finally made our way to Star Wars Land. For months we have been hearing all of the hype and it did not disappoint. We only spent a few hours in the area but could have easily stayed for most of the day. There were only two rides, but so many other scenes, shops, restaurants, etc. that were part of the entire experience. None of us are super fans, and probably missed most of the details that made it authentic, but it was pretty impressive, even for an average fan.
We were pretty excited to get on both of the Star Wars rides. It was amazing how much they did to make you feel like you were really a part of the story.
I wasn't quite sure how much of the story Luke and Ruby were catching. But as we were standing at a little kiosk, someone was looking at a shirt and wondered who was a resistance fighter...Ruby quickly answered and said "we are the resistance". I guess she was listening!
We ended the day with new mini pets,
And the happiest ride in the park.
After a day at California Adventures, we went back to the Magic Kingdom for our last day. Ruby spotted Cinderella right after we got into the park. She was so sweet and made Ruby feel so special.
Ruby made another friend on Main Street
We convinced grandma to go on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and I don't think that will ever happen again. Clearly, the kids loved it, but it wasn't quite as fun for the adults.
It was a great day for spending time with friends in the park.
Ruby and I bonded while riding Dumbo
When we booked our trip, we had no idea that a new parade would debut on our last day in the park. The crowds were crazy and it was pretty chaotic, but definitely worth the wait to see the parade.
After the parade I ended up being super sick (stupid gluten), and spent an hour or more in the bathroom - far from the highlight of the trip. But while I was trying my best not to puke, Ruby was able to meet Moana and show off her new baby Pua. Tim and the kids also ran into our neighbors Nikki and Joe which was so unbelievable with so many people at the park.
With energy left for one last ride, we suited up in our ponchos
And finished the night laughing our way through Splash Mountain.
