Disney on Ice

For the past three years we have taken the kids to Disney on Ice.  The first time we went, Luke and Ruby were only 3 and 2 years old.  They loved it, but honestly were probably just as excited about  Erika and Brycen going with us as they were to see the actual performance.  This year would have been our fourth and I really debated whether the kids would even be that interested.  Tim and I debated buying tickets, but finally decided to extend the tradition at leas one year longer.  We didn't tell the kids until the day before and I was honestly surprised at how excited they were.  Luke said he didn't want to dress up, but Ruby started planning her outfit immediately and was so excited to wear her Cinderella dress that Grandma Gayle gave her.  We made it to the arena at the perfect time and joined all of the other excited kids who were rushing toward the Disney magic.

Each show that we have seen has been different, and this one might have been my favorite.  They went through a quick version of several of their most popular shows and had a lot of cool tricks and turns on the ice.  I don't think the kids paid any attention to the technical side, but they were truly mesmerized from the time the lights went down until the show was over.  I don't know how much longer they will react this way so I'm glad we took the chance to go.  Truly one of my very favorite things is watching Luke and Ruby when they are completely excited and delighted.  And Disney on Ice consistently produces the reaction I was hoping to see.

Once Disney was over, we kept driving North until we reached Logan where we planned to stay for the night.  Sarah Nye just came home from her mission and we wanted to be there for the homecoming.  Church started at 9:00 a.m. and the idea of us leaving our house at 6:00 a.m. seemed a little too ambitious....so we decided to stay the night.  The kids were in heaven, our hotel had a pool and waffles for breakfast so we too advantage of  the "amenities" for the short time we were there.

Sarah's talk on Sunday was really inspiring.  She mainly talked about happiness and how the people she met in the Philippines were the "happiest people in the world" despite the fact that they had nothing.  I loved the stories she told and the personal reminders  that there is a plan and that the Lord's desire for us is to, in fact, be happy.  After church we spent a few hours and the Nye's home - the kids ran wild while the adults had a chance to chat.  It ended up being a very long day, but completely worth it. Welcome home Sister Nye.
