On our way home from St. George, we drove through Cedar Canyon and spent some time in the area of Cedar Breaks. Last year was the first time we had driven home that way and it has quickly become a fall favorite. It is always cold....and definitely windy...but the views made it all worth it.
The views at Cedar Breaks are some of my very favorites. It was interesting to hear what the kids thought about the colors and the rock formations. They thought it looked like giant sand castles and they wanted to know exactly how Heavenly Father had built everything.
Last week we suddenly realized that October was partway over and the colors were fading fast so it became a priority to get up in our mountains close to home. Ruby and Luke had been quite sick and we had all been mostly home bound so a ride in the car seemed like the perfect outing. We drove up to my favorite area above Squaw Peak and I couldn't help but be amazed at the explosion of color. Luke and Ruby loved going on an adventure and kept saying how much they loved hiking. I'm not sure that what we were doing exactly qualified as hiking, but they were learning a love of the great outdoors which seems a pretty perfect reason to be in the mountains.
After the Squaw Peak Road we headed up to Sundance for some final views of the afternoon. The kids loved their Halloween decorations, and by that point, mostly just needed a place to run around.
Zombie faces!
As the sun started to set, we were grateful for a fire.
Sundance suckers are the best
