June 2015

June is summer, real summer.  It came and went so fast, but I feel like we soaked up plenty of the summer magic.

We have spent a lot of time at the various new splash pads in the area.  They are really perfect for toddlers, plenty of water to have fun, but not enough to be dangerous.  The babies love it because they can run around with a little independence.

Tim and Erika hiked the Indian Falls trail in Ogden Canyon.  With all of the rain we have had they said it was super green and beautiful.  

It's always best to end an adventure with sushi.

It was so great to have everyone together on Father's Day - I know that Tim especially loved it.  The babies were really excited to have a day for their dad.  Luke helped pick out a card on Saturday - super hero of course.  It's a good thing that he didn't know too much about our plans because as soon as he saw Tim he started telling him about his surprise.  The big kids came down Sunday afternoon and they all headed up the canyon for a jeep ride.  

Sunday night was spent in the backyard playing on the lawn.  I really was grateful to have time with the two most important men in my life - Tim, the daddy to my babies, we well as my own dad.

It has been unusually hot for most of the month.  Saturday night we went to dinner then headed up to Bridal Veil Falls to beat the heat.  I used to spend so much time running on that part of the trail, it felt nice to be back and of course, the kids loved it.  

Happy Birthday America

For the last several days we have been talking with the kids about our plans for the Fourth of July. Luke keeps saying "Happy Birthday America" and each day wanting to know if it is the day of the big party.  Unfortunately, when this morning rolled around, none of us were quite in the mood to party.  Luke was sick last night and between him, Tim and me, we didn't get a combined 8 hours of sleep.  We had to wake both kids up early to leave for the festivities and we wondered if we should just bag it and stay home.  But, I was determined to celebrate America's birthday so we packed up and headed to the parade.

It was a rough start to the day, but once we started seeing floats, horses, and the giant inflatable characters, the kids started to wake up and enjoy the parade. Luckily the skies were overcast so it wasn't quite so hot and we all really had a fun time.

After the parade we walked back to our cars to make a plan for the rest of the day.  In typical Broadbent fashion, we stood there and talked for a very long time before finally moving on to lunch. And lunch.....is there anything more patriotic than Chuckarama?  Maybe, but they were featuring red white and blue slurpees, and cookies so it seemed unamerican not to go.

After lunch, we finished the afternoon at the movie theater - Inside Out.  I was worried that the babies would be naughty because they were both so tired, but they watched the entire movie without really moving or making a sound.  As we were walking out Luke blurted out "whoa, that was really fun".  I think he was speaking specifically about the movie, but I will take it as commentary on the entire day.

Once we got home from the movie, the kids crashed and slept so late that we ended up not going anywhere to see any fireworks.  Luke did wake up to watch some off of our deck - our neighborhood certainly loves the fireworks.  Ruby didn't completely miss out, we have been practicing with our own sparklers

Payson Canyon - Grotto Trail

This morning we decided to hike the grotto trail in Payson Canyon.  Even though it is short, I wasn't sure how they would do, and thought we might end up packing the little ones for most of the trail. They actually did great and "hiked" pretty much the whole way.  Ruby even found the extra energy to explore every extra rock and log.  It continues to be so fun to experience new things through my babies' eyes.  They were excited by the trees, the river, the bridge, the chipmunks, Tim's Camelback, and of course, the waterfall.  We stayed and hung out for awhile, eating lunch and enjoying the views.  Before we left Luke got brave and decided that he wanted to go all the way under the waterfall. Not to be outdone, Ruby also cried to have me take her under as well - then she cried because it scared her.  On the way down it was super cute, Luke wanted to hold Taylor's hand the entire way.  Such cute brothers.  We are lucky to live so close to so much beauty, we really just had the best time.
